Never heard of him. I've heard of Captain Jack, Captain Ron, Captain Morgan, even Captain Hawkeye Pierce, but never Captain Harlock.

He can also have another name in US. In France he is called Albator.

That was my mot favourite cartoon when I was a kid :)

The first serie from 1978 looks now very old even if its story is better than the second serie from 1984 which is in my dvd collection :)

The story takes place in a future where humanity can travel through space but has encountered an alien race which invades the human planets and make humans their puppets.

That's why Captain Harlock has a pirate flag on his spaceship as he is also targeted by and fight the corrupted human leaders, and of course, the aliens.

Till then other series has been developped as well and there were rumors about a movie incoming. Problem is that the supposed director was the one who gave us this ... thing called Crimson Rivers 2 :P

Captain Harlock is the name commonly used in the US for him, though sometimes the name Herlock is used, though that seems to come from Japan where they use Herlock & Harlock interchangably.

A good site for Harlock info is http://www.cornponeflicks.org/harlock/harlockmain.html though the "web transition wipes" on the webpages are annoying.
