DVD marathon #02: suggestions

Postby Chevalier Bayard » Sun 29 Mar, 2009 11:49

The first dvd marathon will start soon ... time to think about the second one :)

I've chosen arbitrarily the movies for the first one, now we have one month maybe to decide together what's next.

Let's start with one suggestion per person. Of course if you're agreeing with one already made, you're not obliged to propose something else, eh ? ;)

My suggestion for dvd marathon 2 is : Alien & Predator movies:
  • Alien,
  • Aliens,
  • Alien 3,
  • Alien Resurrection,
  • Predator,
  • Predator 2,
  • AvP,
  • AvP Requiem

I thought about the Terminator but at the time we start the marathon, we will already have seen the last one in movie theater...

So Alien ? other ideas ? your turn to write ! ;)

A poll will start about one or two weeks before the end of the current marathon.

Alien and Predator why not but I see the films Alien last years (in november and december) and if I like the Scott's movies and the Cameron's movies (even Alien 4 :D) I don't like Alien 3.

Fort the coming of The Expendable, I propose : Tarantino's movies with :

- Reservoir Dogs
- Pulp Fiction
- Jackie Brown
- Kill Bill 1 & 2
- Grindhouse
Always look on the bright side of life...

Alien it's a good idea but only the originals
# Alien,
# Aliens,
# Alien 3,
# Alien Resurrection

I don't want to see Aliens vs Predator

My others ideas :
- Back to the futur
- Die Hard
- Indiana Jones
- Trilogy jason Bourne

But for the next time, I keep Back to the futur (Sorry, I didn't read "one suggestion per person")

I want to say that perhaps we should stick to film series where there isn't a big dip in quality from one episode to the next. Obviously people will have their disagreements on some films, but if we do a marathon on say, The Godfather, at least part III remains a watchable movie whereas having to watch stuff like AvP, Live Free or Die Hard or Kingdom of the Crystal Skull again is way above my tolerance level :D Or we could agree on a cutoff point, perhaps (like for Alien, only watch the originals as absinthe suggested).

As for suggestions, I was thinking that perhaps we could try to pick a film series that isn't "obvious". By which I mean one that not everyone on the forum is likely to have seen already. Having some people discover a series over the course of the marathon might lead to some interesting discussions. For instance, how about the Once Upon a Time in China series or the 90s Gamera films ?

Yeah I agree with you regarding the fact it could be nice to discover some new movies. Maybe we should then vote for several marathons or put more delays between them than what I had in mind.

Because in most cases people will then have to get themselves the dvds and that can take time.

Also we now have several proposals:
  • Alien & Predator movies (if you really can't stand some of them you'll miss only these ones... for Tarantino I'll miss many of them :D)
  • Romero's zombie movies
  • Tarantino's movies (as a director)
  • Back to the Futur movies
  • and Once Upon a Time in China serie.

5 suggestions is already great. As I had not defined how many ideas could be collected, I'll accept 1 more, and 1 more only.

I expect those who have proposed an idea to go on a campaign to see there idea win the poll which will be launched as soon as we'll have our sixth suggestion or on next Friday if no other suggestion appears. :)

If we want some series less "obvious", I suggest to start right now the topic for Marathon#3, with 6 suggestions possibles, once again. Go ahead if you're interested by the idea ;)

Something Less obvious:

A Fistful of Dollars
Last Man Standing
Lucky Number Slevin
The Warrior and the Sorceress
Desert Heat

All of which are versions of Yojimbo

:D

Or we could just do Leone's Dollars trilogy ;)
