X-Plane Revolution

Postby Chevalier Bayard » Sun 19 Aug, 2007 02:02

I've only found about this plane simulator today and it looks quite interesting.

According to what I've read, X-Plane Revolution comes with :
  • A realistic flight model,
  • 35 kinds of breakdown,
  • A real weather forecast management (so you can use your METAR & TAF knowledge :D),
  • Hundreds of planes downloadable for free,
  • the entire world modelized in 3D with thousands of airports available

Quite the same offer as Flight Simulator but it seems the resolution we obtain in FS through the use of meshs (especially VFR ones), is the default one in X-Plane Revolution which comes on none the less than 7 dvd and will take initially 60 gigas on your hard-drive ! :)

With all the mesh I have on FS I'm gonna stick with it for now but when FS2008 will come I won't forget to look the challenger...

Well I had tried it on Linux and it was nightmarish! I even found it was a real lie to use the argument "Linux compatible" to sale the game when they're not even capable to avoid the only stupid mistake you can do on Linux: having a completely weird cd name (as on Linux you mount the cd you have to go manually if you want to name it otherwise). :terrorite:

Last week I've tried it on Windows and if the installation goes quite ok, the interface once the game launch is just AWFUL and completely unfriendly.

I won't advise anyone to go to that simulator while Flight Simulator is so user friendly on the other hand, for the same price, or even cheaper. For actually the same manipulations on Linux regarding the cd names, you can make FS run with Wine so I don't see anymore point which justify such a price for XPlane...
